What would Christmas be without the snow? Probably, sad. But what are we supposed to do when it snows for 12 hours? And then it rains…And then for Christmas is warm…And then the forecast for tomorrow is -9°C.
How will I spend the three days of Christmas? From one family friend to another, from one table full of food to another full of alcohol (just to warm me a bit). Isn’t Christmas great?
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! The last week of 2008 will pass so fast! Have fun, guys! TTL in 2009!
Love,
Alex
P.S.: Party! Party hard! And drink a lot of water when you have the time!

New Year Resolution
I subscribe to several magazines – obviously, fashion magazines - and all of them contain articles related to Christmas and New Years Eve: how to indulge in all the food without gaining weight; what to wear to every party that you attend; amazing exercises which will help you tone your body for your little black dress, and so on. And NO, I will not talk about clothes, food or give you ideas of what to buy for your family, nor am I going to give you tips on how to organise your Christmas party.
There is something about this month that depresses me every year. And it is not the money for the gifts (Visas and MasterCards are here to help you), nor about the outfits I have to figure out for a week of eating, talking and dancing with everyone I cherish. But it does have something to do with the drawing of the line at the end of the year in order to see what went wrong and what was perfect, and, furthermore, to find new Resolutions for the year that is about to come.
Like the day of Christmas, the 31st is another spiritually important day. I wake up late in the morning, eat with my family, drink a hot coffee or tea and spend quality time with those that I love around the Christmas tree. Preparation will soon start: the food, the cleaning part – which I find unnecessary as it will become a bigger mess the next morning, the music, the clothes. But throughout this long adventure filled with stress and flour, I always manage to steal one hour or two, in order to rearrange my life and plan what is about to come.
For instance, last year I was so caught up in the thrill of getting to know this country and this new environment, that I said to myself: “Prepare yourself for yet another year of exploration!”. And that was it. No papers thrown away, no trying to figure out which things I could do first in the 2008, no other resolution than just laying back and letting every thing pass slowly. I am not superstitious, nor do I believe that omitting something could cause anarchy, but the year that is about to pass was nothing but difficult. It was the first time I broke my personal custom, I disregarded it, and so I suffered.
So many things occurred this year, maybe not to all of us, but I just feel like it cannot get any worse. I will try not to complain about it. We still have two weeks left. You never know what might hit you.
Let us not exaggerate. Of course, we had our share of good things, good grades, good jobs, lots of money. But, overall, there were events that just erased everything I worked for the entire time. Some of you, might read my article and say “Oh yes, indeed. It was a sad year!”
However, some of you had a good year, the year of your life, the year you have accomplished the most, and, if you are right now reading my article, I just have to say: Bravo! Enjoy it while it lasts and keep on wishing for a better one.
I am sure, you might not understand the purpose of my column that you are about to finish reading. You might think that it was a waste of time. My main goal was to see if I am the only one concerning about what is to come. The year that is slowly coming to an end brought war and kept alive the disputes that have been going on for years, history was written for the United States not too long ago, financial crisis all over the globe and changes have been made that bring no good whatsoever to the people. And if you attach this to my personal list, I feel that it is my fault for not writing my resolutions on the last day of 2007.
For the year that will arrive I promise that I will write down all that I wish to accomplish and I will hope for a better world and a better future. What will you wish for? What do you want from 2009? The clock is ticking, time goes fast. Prepare your pencils and your papers. We need a change!
